Things like Shaking down shops can get repetitive but help break up the story when attempted little by little. ![]() There are twice as many missions here, and a lot more variety in the style of missions to enjoy. Shakedown Hawaii points out all the ways that major corporations have been screwing us consumers, and yet isn’t too rough with us proles and how we’ve all grown to accept it. ![]() Gone are the references and instead is a burning satire of how the modern world has changed. You can now plough through walls making driving a lot simpler and the police are far less likely to mess with you and stand in your way. Vehicles and weapons are much easier to control, with 360 degree aim, improved lock on and the speed is handled a lot better. In RCR it could sometimes be pretty difficult to tell what was going on, but I never had this issue in Shakedown Hawaii. The shiny new graphics suit the style perfectly. It improves on every single aspect of the original. It does just what a sequel is supposed to do. That is to say I finished the successor Shakedown Hawaii first. And every death sends you back about 3 minutes and you will be going back a lot.īut maybe I only feel this way because I played Retro City Rampage second. Sometimes rooms are just packed with seemingly endless enemies with rock launchers, and you have just your fists. Cars and bullets can only move in 8 directions and go at super speed making maneuvering almost impossible. It is the difficulty which is simply frustrating which meant that it never quite gelled with me. I do not really like Retro City Rampage. It’s not the constant references or corny humour, they are of course its charm. ![]()
